A slide latex agglutination test using a highly specific monoclonal antibody for the detection of penicillin binding protein 2' (PBP2'), The test can be performed in 10-15 minutes from one loopful of bacterial cells taken from a blood agar plate.
MRSA-Screen is growing in popularity as the clinical microbiologist's choice for rapid MRSA detection and nosocomial infection management, currently employed in hospitals and laboratories in more than 17 countries, It is over 99% sensitive and 99% specific for MRSA.
S. aureus Latex Test
Differentiation of S. aureus from other staphylococcal bacteria is possible in two minutes with this rapid slide latex test, serving as the perfect compliment to the MRSA-Screen. Latex particles sensitized with fibrinogen and rabbit plasma are used in this test. Its agreement with the coagulase test is also excellent.
Coagulase Typing Antisera "SEIKEN"
The set consists of 8 typing antisera and provides a highly convenient and useful epidemiological marker for the identification of strain inter-relatedness in S. aureus isolates, identifying which coagulase (type I - type VIII) is produced by a given isolate of S. aureus. Comprehensive studies performed in Japan have shown that S. aureus obtained from foods linked to food poisoning outbreaks could be successfully typed by the "SEIKEN" coagulase system. More recent studies have shown that the majority of MRSA isolates in Japan produce coagulase type II (70-75%), often in combination with staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) and toxic-shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1). While other methods are useful in the investigation of the source, transmission, and spread of nosocomial infections, a combination of phenotyping and genotyping method is preferred for more detailed analysis.
S. aureus Enterotoxin Detection and Identifications
SET-RPLA "SEIKEN" is an RPLA test employing separately sensitized with highly specific antibodies for staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) A, B, C, and D. Results are semi-quantitative and individual reagents can be purchased separately. A SEE reagent is also now available.
Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1
TST-RPLA "SEIKEN" is an RPLA test that is simple to perform and has semi-quantitative results for TSST-1, which is commonly known as a superantigen, and a remarkable toxin in MRSA infections.
Exfoliative Toxins A & B
EXT-RPLA "SEIKEN" detects and identifies exfoliative toxins A (ETA) and B (ETB), which are produced by certain strains of S. aureus. Detection is important in both the diagnosis and detection of carries and the screening at-risk patients in the prevention of Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome (SSSS). The kit is 100% sensitive and 100% specific compared to PCR and bioassay.
